Web Design

With strong skills in HTML & CSS and a growing knowledge in Javascript I am able to craft beautiful and professional websites that not only engage users, but help to fulfill their goals. I believe that a website should be clear in presenting its content to the intended audience, regardless of the users technological capabilities.

Below is a selection of web sites that I have designed and built over the past few years.

TrafficMate is an internet monitoring system for motels, hotels and holiday parks. It is designed to let property owners create and manage internet accounts for their guests that they can then charge for. The software was written by Richard Warburton.

Reconline Hotel Setup Form

This site is a online application form designed to allow motel and hotel owners to sign up for the Reconline internet booking channel manager.

MotelMate Website

MotelMate is a property management system for motels, backpackers, hostels and holiday parks. The core idea behind the web site is to sell the merits of this product.
I have also created a set of custom icons that describe each of the key selling points.

Sakanaya Website

I first started this site as a formative assignment in the first year of my diploma at Media Design School and was lucky enough to get the opportunity to go back and finish it for the restaurant as part of my client summative at the end of my second year.

Web Development

With knowledge in both PHP and Flash (Actionscript3) I am able to bring rich and dynamic content to any web solution.

MotelMate is a database program built with filemaker to allow motels and holiday parks to manage their guest and bookings. This grid application is an interactive calendar built with ActionScript3 that allows the user to view and edit their bookings.

Brown Day Group Website

The Brown Day site is the portfolio of Auckland based architects Brown Day Group, and was a collaborative effort between myself and the design company Oh.No.Sumo. Oh.No.Sumo laid out the design of the site while I took care of the development side. The site is primarily built with flash but contains a couple of static pages for extra content.

Branding & Logo Design

One of the goals while redesigning my personal brand was to create an iconic character to embody the theme "Jack of all trades; Master of some" (he can be seen to the right on larger screens). Not only is he present on this site but for consistency he is also the avatar I use all over the internet.
As part of the rebranding launch and to draw focus to this site I also created a silk screened poster that was sent to a few prospective employers to spark their interest.

Miss Pumpkin's Homemade Pickles & Preserves is a one women business startup that lovingly makes pickles, chutneys and curds that will be sold at local markets around the Nelson & Richmond area.

About Me

In 2006 I walked into a small screen printing shop in central Auckland, having no previous experience I got a job washing screens.
And for the first 6 months thats all I did.
While I was there I learnt how the print process worked: from colour separations to screen making and how to pull ink with a squeegee. As I worked my way up through the ranks I refined my photoshop skills, taught myself illustrator and after 3 years I was head of the artwork department.

I learnt a lot during this time, about client etiquette and how a business was run. Small places are great like that.
Having found my passion in design and illustration I wanted to explore these more, so I started looking around for part time courses, anything that could inspire me and help me to get a foot up and out the door.

I enrolled in the two year Diploma of Digital Media at the Media Design School. Still working nine till five during the day, then studying web design and development by night.
Graduating top of my class I earned my diploma with distinction and received the highest industry panel award for overall excellence.

I then moved on to work for a small filemaker development company creating web sites and picking up the slack with support phone calls. Since working there I have moved to sunny Nelson with my partner and was lucky enough to bring my job with me.
Now I'm looking for work with a local Graphic and Web design studio.
